Current research interests include biofuels, obesity, food security, agricultural trade and policy, WTO negotiations, and comparative soil and water conservation policies.
His recent publications are in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Choices, Environmental Economics, Diabetes, Foreign Affairs, a 1992 book, Reforming Farm Policy: Toward a National Agenda with Willard W. Cochrane, and a co-authored 2003 book, Ending Hunger in Our Lifetime: Food Security and Globalization.
