Time-Sensitive Requests for Proposals or Applications
This is a list of RFPs that have been brought to the Department's attention through direct mail, email distribution lists and newsletters. The opportunities are listed in order by due date and will be removed one month after the deadline has passed.

GRANT-IN-AID OF RESEARCH, ARTISTRY, AND SCHOLARSHIP ~ The fall 2008 application deadline is Sept. 22. Faculty members whose needs fall into one of the fundable categories and who do not currently hold a Grant-in-Aid are encouraged to submit an application electronically. PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT GRANTS ~ The Minnesota Population Center is accepting applications for Proposal Development Grants.  The purpose of these grants is to stimulate fundable, multi-disciplinary population research at the University of Minnesota. These small-scale grants (typically under $10,000) are designed to give faculty, research associates, and post-doctoral researchers the time or other resources that they need to develop and submit population-related research proposals to external funding agencies.  The deadline for submitting proposals is Wednesday, October 29.  For complete details, visit:  http://www.pop.umn.edu/research/MPCProposalDevelopmentGrants.

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS - The Healthy Foods, Healthy Lives Institute has released two requests for proposals. The Institute will award U faculty members up to three research grants of $100,000 each in the area of food policy and seed grants of $25,000-$50,000 each in the areas of food policy, prevention of obesity and chronic disease, and food safety. GRANT FUNDING RESOURCES WORKSHOPS  - The University of Minnesota Libraries, in cooperation withthe Office of the Vice President for Research, is now offering one hour workshops for faculty, staff and students called "Grant  Funding: Search Tools and Resources".  Learn how to use SPIN, Community of Science and the Foundation Directory to search for grant opportunities. NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION Economics Program supports research designed to improve the understanding of the processes and institutions of the U.S. economy and of the world system of which it is a part.  The Economics Program welcomes proposals for individual or multi-investigator research projects, doctoral dissertation improvement awards, conferences, workshops, symposia, experimental research, data collection and dissemination, and research experience for undergraduates.  The proposal deadline is January 18, yearly or August 18, yearly.  For more information visit http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=5437&org=NSF&from=fund

IDEA GRANTS PROGRAM - The U of MN Office for Equity and Diversity announces the IDEA (Innovation, Diversity, Equity, and Achievement) Grants Program, which supports projects, programming, events, and research that address underrepresented and marginalized students, faculty, staff and communities. 2009-2010 FULBRIGHT GRANT COMPETITION is now open. Fulbright Scholarships and other grants for study and research in over 150 countries worldwide are available. Campus application deadline is September 8, 2008. For more information, contact Terry Hurley at tmh@umn.edu

The KRESGE FOUNDATION has announced two new comprehensive grant making programs in the areas of Health and the Environment. Both the Health and Environment programs address health and environment-related social issues. The Environment Program seeks to have tangible effects on the practices and policies associated with climate change and environmental sustainability. LINCOLN INSTITUTE OF LAND POLICY ~ The Department of Economic and Community Development at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy announces a Request for Proposals “Race to the Top: Investments in Human, Social, Cultural, Political, and Environmental Capital as Economic Development Strategies.” The Department of Economic and Community Development focuses on problems related to the distribution of the costs and benefits of land use and development.  Race to the Top is a new initiative that investigates how communities and regions can invest in land, people and places for the purposes of economic and community development.  The Institute is interested in papers from a variety of disciplines that take a variety of approaches, including theoretical, empirical, and evaluation of policies.
