Labor Economics and Human Capital

Fall 2009

This course will cover topics in applied microeconomics related to labor supply and human capital, focusing on the decisions made by households and the resulting outcomes in the labor market. Topics include household labor supply, estimation of labor supply and earnings functions, the theory of human capital (including returns to schooling, on-the-job training, job search, etc.), and behavioral economics models. This seven-week course can be taken as part of either the Labor Economics field or the Consumer Behavior and Household Economics field in the Applied Economics PhD program.

Prerequisites:  Econ 8001-8004 or Econ 8101- 8104, and Apec 8811-12, or instructor consent.
