He is the author of a book on tourism development and another on trends in recreation and tourism. He has been published, among others, in the Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Travel Research, Leisure Sciences, Travel and Tourism Marketing, International Consumer Marketing, and Tourism Management.

He has served on the Executive Committee for the International Academy for the Study of Tourism including four years as President and another four as Chair. He is doing work in the areas of development economics, transportation barriers, amenities and attributes of highway systems, seasonal home development, visitor profiles, economic impact and destination brand equity.
