Teaching Award Winners

Our Department has a proud tradition of excellent teaching, and many on our faculty have earned kudos from the College and the University for excellence in teaching.

Brian Buhr, the Department Head, received the College’s award for teachers with tenure. Brian teaches Commodity Marketing, ApEc 3411, and leads a commodity marketing study tour during Spring Break.
Gary Cooper, the Undergraduate Program Coordinator, has received numerous honors for his advising including the Distinguished Academic Staff Award (Non-Scientific Category) and the Student Board Outstanding Teacher of the Year. Gary teaches the Orientation class, ApEc 1001, and a freshman seminar entitled “The Ordinary Business of Life.”

Elizabeth Davis received the College’s award for non-tenured teachers. Liz teaches ApEc 5032, Economic Data Analysis for Managerial and Policy Decisions. Her research focuses on public policies related to child care.

Frances Homans, the Coordinator for the Applied Economics Major, received the College’s award for non-tenured teachers. Frances teaches ApEc 3611: Natural Resource and Environmental Economics.

Rob King received the College’s award for teachers with more than ten years of experience. Rob is teaching a Freshman Seminar for Honors students, The Omnivore’s Dilemma.

Donald Liu has been recognized with the University’s highest teaching honor, the Horace T. Morse-Alumni teaching award. He has also received recognition from the American Agricultural Economics Association and the College. Don is noted for his “high-tech” and “high-touch” approach to teaching. Don teaches Principles of Microeconomics, ApEc 1101.

Kent Olson received the College’s award for teachers with tenure. Kent teaches the Farm Management class, ApEc 3811, and World Food Problems, ApEc 4103.
