Information for Prospective Students

The Department of Applied Economics offers two undergraduate majors. Both majors feature a core of Economic Principles, Applied Microeconomics and Applied Macroeconomics. Major electives in one of several areas of emphasis round out the major.  As a joint program with the Carlson School of Management, the Agricultural and Food Business Management major includes core and elective coursework in various fields of management, too. The areas of emphasis for the Applied Economics major include: Management and Finance, Marketing, Food Retailing, Trade and Development, Resources and Environment, Regional and Public Economics, and an Individualized Area. Agri­cultural and Food Business Management majors select one of the following emphases: Business Management; Financial Management; Marketing, Sales and Food Industry Management; and an Individualized Emphasis.
