Steve was selected for "distinguished contributions to the field of environmental economics, particularly for his work in biodiversity conservation and endangered species policy."
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is the world's largest general scientific society and the publisher of the journal, Science. This year's AAAS Fellows will be announced in the AAAS News & Notes section of Science today (October 26, 2007).
AAAS was founded in 1848 and includes 262 affiliated societies and academies of science, serving 10 million individuals. The tradition of AAAS Fellows began in 1874. The rank of Fellow is achieved when a member is nominated by the Steering Groups of the Association's 24 sections, or by any three Fellows who are current AAAS members or by the AAAS Chief Executive Officer. Each Steering Group then reviews the nominations of individuals within its respective section and the AAAS Council votes on the finalists.
The new Fellows will be presented with an official certificate and a rosette pin on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at the Fellows Forum during the 2008 AAAS Annual Meeting in Boston." News release at http://www1.umn.edu/umnnews/news_details.php?release=071025_3601&page=UMNN
