With background training in agricultural, environmental, and regional economics, Koel now engages in active scholarship of the food industry.
Current research interests focus on all issues pertinent to the food industry, particularly in the following areas: food safety and food terrorism, consumer behavior, characteristics of US food supply and consumption and their implications for health, profile of the food industry in Minnesota, industry trends, and
tracking emergent issues like Radio
Frequency Identification (RFID) technology
and Neutragenomics for the food industry.
