Joe Ritter teaches courses in labor economics, macroeconomics, and statistics for the Department of Applied Economics and the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs. 

Before coming to Minnesota, he worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of
St. Louis, Yale University, the University of Texas, and the U.S. Congressional Budget Office.

His research interests include the role of employer learning in the labor market, agency problems in employment relationships, and discrimination.

Ritter’s publications have appeared in The Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, The International Labour Review, Economic Theory, and The American Economic Review.
