Consumption economics, food industry structure and distribution

Conducting research on consumers' preferences for characteristics and safety features of food (meat), food safety issues including pesticides, the welfare effects of nontariff trade barriers resulting from health and safety regulations, and product quality and government regulations, trends in food consumption and retail food sales, structure of the food industry and the effect of electronic technology on efficiency.

Published in American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Consumer Affairs, Food Policy, Choices, Cereal Foods World, Agribusiness: An International Journal, Journal of Travel Research, China Economic Review, Journal of Nutrition and several book chapters.

She was Chair of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis 1996-1997; coauthor of book Food Trends and the Changing Consumer,1991, President of American Agricultural Economics Association 2001-2002.
