Community and regional economics

Dr. Morse was a campus faculty Extension Specialist at South Dakota State University and the Ohio State University before joining the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota in 1989 with extension, research and teaching responsibilities.

His research emphasized regional economic impact analysis and the evaluation of community economic development programs.

In Extension, his educational programs on business retention and expansion
strategies have been adopted internationally.

From July 2002 to July 2007, he was Associate Dean and Director for the University of Minnesota Extension Service. His articles about the changes in Extension during that period are available on AgEcon Search.

In July 2007, George retired from the University of Minnesota and moved to Maine. In his new business, Extension Economics Associates, he is doing educational workshops on public value of extension and public sector programs, business planning for extension, economics of specialization, and business retention and expansion.

His publications include the book The Retention and Expansion of Existing Businesses and articles in the Economic Development Review, Journal of Regional Analysis and Policy, Journal of Extension, National Tax Journal, The Journal of the Community Development Society, Review of Agricultural Economics, North Central Journal of Agricultural Economics, and the American Journal of Agricultural Economics.
